For Whom Did Jesus Ride into Jerusalem?

For Whom Did Jesus Ride into Jerusalem?

John 12:12-15 says: "The next day the large crowd that had come to the feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem. So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet Him, crying out, 'Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel!' And Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, just as it is written, 'Fear not, daughter of Zion; behold, your King is coming, sitting on a donkey's colt!'” (ESV) So Jesus climbs on a donkey and rides into Jerusalem. The crowd is in a frenzy. The notion of revolution was in the air. 'Out with the Roman occupiers! In with the long promised Messiah-King!' was surely their mindset. But something far greater was unfolding! Where was Jesus so resolutely headed? And who was He headed there for? If we answer, He was headed there for God, we'd be right. But who else was He headed there for? Us! Upon that cross He fulfilled all justice and He did so while manifesting the incomprehensible love of God to redeem us from sin and death! What's the appropriate response? Hosanna! Hosanna in the highest! Hosanna to the King of kings!
