An Offering Unsurpassed
In Exodus 35 and 36, we read how God commanded Moses and His people to build a Tabernacle for worship. Where? In the wilderness. In order to do this God's way, the people who were willing were asked to give what they had in order to build according to God's plan. This was to be a freewill offering that included everything from precious metals and gemstones to goat hair and yarn, not to mention their creative skills and abilities. So the people commenced to giving. And they kept on giving. In fact, they gave so much that Moses had to command them to stop! Now we might call this the greatest offering ever. Except it wasn't. That would come 1400 years later. Romans 8:3-4 tells us about an offering far far greater, and this one was made by God Himself: "The law of Moses was unable to save us because of the weakness of our sinful nature. So God did what the law could not do. He sent His own Son in a body like the bodies we sinners have. And in that body God declared an end to sin’s control over us by giving His Son as a sacrifice for our sins. He did this so that the just requirement of the law would be fully satisfied for us, who no longer follow our sinful nature but instead follow the Spirit." (NLT) This offering is indeed the greatest ever--eternally unsurpassed!
