Giving Help

In Romans 12:13 Paul exhorts the Church: "When God’s people are in need, be ready to help them. Always be eager to practice hospitality." (NLT) Hebrews 13:16 echoes: "Do not neglect to do good, to contribute [to the needy of the church as an expression of fellowship], for such sacrifices are always pleasing to God." (AMP) Most of us know someone who needs help. The last thing we want to do is persuade ourselves we can't help others. The Bible is full of stories where God showed up to help His people but also where God showed up to help His people, help His people! With God's help, David saved his nation with five smooth stones and a slingshot; Esther summoned up courage--godly boldness--to save her people from genocide; The Good Samaritan helped his bludgeoned enemy dying on the side of the road; and a young boy gave up his lunch so Jesus could feed thousands. All who are willing to give help, can! At the confluence of humility and willingness and love, generosity flows wild and free and that river gushes straight out of the heart of God.
