Moses Dies. Jesus Lives. And Jesus Saves!
Moses authored the first five books of the Bible. He delivered God's people from Egyptian slavery. He was the instrument God used to perform great miracles. From floating basket to burning bush to Red Sea crossing to tablets of stone and numerous desert campsites, Moses faithfully served. Then he climbed Mt. Nebo and died. God alone conducted his graveside service. 1400 years later, Jesus arrives. Hebrews 3:1-3 says: "Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, whom we acknowledge as our Apostle and High Priest. He was faithful to the One who appointed Him, just as Moses was faithful in all God’s house. Jesus has been found worthy of greater honor than Moses, just as the builder of a house has greater honor than the house itself." (NLT) Romans 8:3 explains the contrast like this: "The law of Moses was unable to save us because of the weakness of our sinful nature. So God did what the law could not do. He sent His own Son in a body like the bodies we sinners have. And in that body God declared an end to sin’s control over us by giving His Son as a sacrifice for our sins." (NLT) The Law-Keeper died for the lawbreakers. Even as Moses struck the rock twice and sinned, Jesus, the Rock of Ages, was struck and pierced for our sins. For the sins of Moses as well! Jesus truly saves to the uttermost! All glory to His name!
