They Hung The Messiah on a Tree!

They Hung The Messiah on a Tree!

After being arrested and imprisoned by Jewish leaders, they're sprung from prison by an angel. Immediately they return to the temple to continue proclaiming the Gospel. So much for laying low and retreating from the public eye! Once re-apprehended, they're brought again before the Jewish leaders--the Sanhedrin. In Acts 5:30-32 Peter and his fellow disciples level this indictment against their prosecutors: "The God of our fathers raised Jesus, whom you killed by hanging Him on a tree. God exalted Him at His right hand as Leader and Savior, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins. And we are witnesses to these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey Him.” (ESV) It's likely not lost on the Sanhedrin that they've just been accused by a rag tag bunch of unschooled fisherman of executing the long-promised Messiah and doing so by hanging Him on a tree as though He were cursed! And in this same defense they declare that the One cursed is not dead, but living and reigning at the right hand of God the Father Almighty! Apparently they received no standing ovation. While the disciples then endured flogging and eventually all but one martyrdom, they never shrunk back from proclaiming the Good News about Jesus! May the same be said of us...
