In Mark 8:38, Jesus says: "For whoever is ashamed of Me and of My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him will the Son of Man also be ashamed when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.” (ESV) He echoes similarly in Matthew 10:32-33: "So everyone who acknowledges Me before men, I also will acknowledge before My Father who is in heaven, but whoever denies Me before men, I also will deny before My Father who is in heaven." (ESV) In our culture, believers are likely to suffer little more than ridicule for their faith in Christ. While this is changing rapidly in our nation, in some cultures around the world, if you slapped a "Jesus is Lord" bumper sticker on your car, your family might disown you, your business or livelihood might be destroyed, or worse yet, you could be killed. But with Jesus' words there is an implicit summons, a call to action, and that exhortation is, no longer conceal where you stand with your Divine Rescuer. In other words, come out of the shadows and don't be ashamed to acknowledge Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord!
