The King and His Kingdom
After healing Simon Peter's mother-in-law and all the sick and afflicted people in and around Capernaum, casting out demons in the process, Jesus departed to a remote place to pray. Upon being found, Luke 4:43 records our Lord's words: "I must preach the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns as well; for I was sent for this purpose.” (ESV) Luke often uses the term, the Kingdom of God. (30+ times) The Gospel, the Good News, is about a King and His Kingdom. The coming of Jesus, God the Son, was the inauguration of God's Kingdom on the earth and we are moving daily towards its full consummation when Christ Jesus returns. Each day we pray, "Father in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven." Out of all the prayers we pray, this one will be answered. We pray for big things. We pray for small things. Some of those get answered just like we want and some do not. But when we pray for God's Kingdom to come on the earth, the outcome is never in doubt. And what are the monuments of triumph for the Kingdom of God? A bloody cross, an empty tomb, and countless regenerated souls and transformed hearts.
