Joy's Not About The Money

Joy's Not About The Money

Luke's accounts of the Rich Young Ruler and the little man named Zacchaeus are stories of contrast. Both men were wealthy. Both men passionately sought after Jesus; while Zacchaeus scampered up a tree just to catch a glimpse, the rich young ruler ran and fell at Jesus' feet. One approached Jesus with a very moral pedigree, looking for Jesus' affirmation and approval, believing his salvation could be earned. The other knew he was a sinner, approached Jesus with a sense of desperation, a man who knew he needed a Savior. Both men were loved by Jesus. But the most striking contrast is what happened after these two men encountered their Lord--one went away very sad, unable to give up that which held his heart. The other was overcome with inexpressible joy because the True Treasure he found was more precious than silver or gold.
