Love's Got Everything To Do With It

Love's Got Everything To Do With It

The former hellion turned Apostle of Love, wrote to us in 1 John 4:7-10: "Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love. In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent His only Son into the world, so that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we have loved God but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another." (ESV)  In these five verses we hear articulated the greatest expression of love ever in the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the inherent consequence of that Gospel when it truly takes hold of us.  By sending His Son to absorb His wrath towards us, God's justice was satisfied.  God's matchless love and amazing grace towards us was likewise satisfied.  Jesus' cross is the divine intersection of God's severity and lovingkindness and it is altogether scandalous and wondrous.  Therefore, the impact of this love upon us can be nothing less than love for one another.  Love is the indisputable evidence that God has made us His own.
