“Jesus Became A Curse”

“Jesus Became A Curse”

Paul pens a very admonitional letter to the church in Galatia to address those promoting a different gospel, one that requires the keeping of the Jewish law in order to be righteous before God.  Leading the church through an Old Testament Bible study, Paul establishes that justification, going all the way back to Abraham, was always by the basis of faith, not something earned.  In the text of this message, we focus on Galatians 3:13 where Paul emphatically writes: “Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: 'Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree.'”  Not only do we see that the curse is broken via Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross, we also see what the blessing of Abraham is and how it has been gifted to us.  Then, with deep gratitude, we celebrate together with Communion.
