Close1 Thessalonians 5:8-11 says: "But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet the hope of salvation. For God has not destined us for wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us so that whether we are awake or asleep we might live with Him. Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing." (ESV) Life in the here and now isn't even a smidgeon's worth of eternity. It's merely the train station. The place of debarkation. But before we disembark, there's work to be done here; in us and around us, through us and in spite of us. The late R.C. Sproul said it best with just four words: "Right now counts forever." No matter your age, in Christ you have purpose now and an unending future. No matter how dark things seem or how dark they'll get, your future is bright. You belong to the Day. Put on faith and hope and love in the meantime. Let there be no doubt whose child you are, what direction you're headed, and where and with Whom you'll spend your forever!
