We Are His Workmanship

We Are His Workmanship

In Philippians 1:6 Paul writes these words to what may be his favorite church: "And I am sure of this, that He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ." (ESV) How can we not be bolstered by such promising words?! Then we have more encouraging words, these from Ephesians 2:10: "For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them." (ESV) The Greek word for workmanship (poiƩma) is translated several ways in various Bible translations: handiwork; work of art; and masterpiece, to name a few. Take your pick--they're all splendid renderings. So we are God's workmanship, His handiwork, His art project, His masterpiece! To be certain, there's canvas on the floor underneath His easel, watch where you step; there's scaffolding all around our hearts and minds, wear your hardhats; there's orange barrels all around our lives, slow down and drive with caution; but know this, God never abandons or leaves a project unfinished and that includes the likes of us. Glory be to God!
