To Gray Hairs God Will Carry You; But Your Idols Won't

Prophesying to God's people, Isaiah 46:4 says, "...even to your old age I am He, and to gray hairs I will carry you. I have made, and I will bear; I will carry and will save." (ESV) This was declared to a people who had removed their trust in Almighty God and placed it in the "gods" of Babylon. The Bible labels it idolatry. Many in our day have placed their trust in bank accounts and 401Ks, investment properties, stocks and bonds, pensions and insurance policies, or gold and silver. But do these offer any more security than the false gods of Isaiah's day? In his book, Counterfeit Gods, Tim Keller writes: “An idol is anything more important to you than God. Anything that absorbs your heart and imagination more than God. Anything you seek to give you what only God can give. Anything that is so central and essential to your life, that should you lose it, your life would feel hardly worth living.” Obviously idolatry is alive and well in our day. One TV commercial constantly asks, "What's in your wallet?" The better question is what's in your heart and in whom do you trust? If God has promised to carry us to gray hairs, that's undoubtedly a promise He intends to keep. Let's, therefore, go with Him!
