The Word on the Word on the Word

The Word on the Word on the Word

2 Timothy 3:14-17 are among Paul's last words to his son in the faith: "But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work." (ESV) John 1:1-4 with 14 added declares: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him was not any thing made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men... And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen His glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth." (ESV) Someone famously unknown said: "Jesus is the Word; the Bible is the Word about the Word; and preaching is about the Word about the Word about the Word." Hearty applause for whomever said that! The 66 books of the Bible are brilliant floodlights. And where does God's Word find the confluence of its radiance shining forth? Upon the Good News of God the Son--Jesus Christ our Lord!
