Ten Minas Plus A Handkerchief

Ten Minas Plus A Handkerchief

In Jesus' Parable of the Minas, there comes a day of reckoning where each servant must give an account. One turned his mina into ten, another turned his mina into five, and yet another wrapped his mina in a handkerchief and did nothing. The one who earned ten was rewarded with ten cities, the one who earned five was rewarded with five cities, and the one who earned none received a scathing rebuke and his mina was taken away and given to the servant who had earned ten. Jesus certainly has entrusted much to us in terms of talents, gifts, and graces, skills and abilities, time and opportunities. But Jesus' parable is more lofty. Perhaps we really need to get down to the business of His business. Or get back to it. He has given us a Great Commandment and a Great Commission. What are we doing with His commands to love, preach, and make disciples? Are we truly engaging in His business? There's a deepening concern with the church's diminishing sense of urgency while sinking ever more into a malaise of complacency. So what's in your handkerchief? Hopefully nothing!
