Shining Like Stars

Shining Like Stars

Following the credal hymn in Philippians 2 where Paul describes Jesus' humility as He laid aside His divinity to take on humanity, he implores us to take on the same attitude and mindset as our Lord.  Paul continues to exhort us to work out our salvation with fear and trembling, to discover and demonstrate all that our salvation implies.  There are indeed evidences and implications for having once been lost but now found; once dead but now alive; once enslaved but now free; once in one kingdom but now in another; once spiritual orphans but now the adopted children of God.  Working out, fleshing out, living out, the implications of our salvation will mean we will increasingly shine like stars in the midst of a dark, crooked, and twisted world.  D.L. Moody said: “A holy life will produce the deepest impression. Lighthouses blow no horns; they only shine.”  And it is perhaps when we shine like stars (or lighthouses) that our words will become all the more powerful and penetrating as we hold out the word of life, telling others about this great salvation granted us through God's amazing grace.
