Saying Whoa While on the Go

How can we fervently endeavor to stay on mission, always on the go, always pressing on and pressing into God without becoming frantic on the one hand or complacent on the other? How can we stay fixed on where God has directed us to go and still make the vital stops along the way that are necessary to keep us on track and healthy? Jesus was always on mission. Even when He withdrew to the mountains or quiet places to pray, it was a part of the mission. Ecclesiastes says "When the ax is dull you have to exert more strength." Ever try to chop wood with an aluminum baseball bat? Sharp axes do much better! The Gospel, as Paul says in 1 Corinthians 15:3, is of first importance. It is the prime directive. But we not only take it to the nations or into our various spheres, we take it into our prayer closets, our quiet places of retreat, and we take it to heart. For this Good News to be Life to those to whom we are sent, it must also be Life to us. Someone once said, "We must not get so caught up in the work of the Lord that we forget the Lord of the work." May He help us say whoa even while we're zealously on the go!
