Ravens and Lilies

In Luke 12 Jesus exhorts His disciples to not be anxious for their lives, for food, clothes, or the necessities of life. To assure God's care for them, He urges them to observe the ravens who God feeds and the lilies which He beautifully arrays. But Jesus doesn't just say, "Don't worry," He tells us why His Father is trust-worthy. Then in verses 31 and 32 Jesus declares further: "Instead, seek His kingdom, and these things will be added to you. Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom." (ESV) Not only will God provide our basic needs, but He offers us His Kingdom! This Kingdom comes with a King and His name is Jesus: Co-Creator of all things seen and unseen; the Word made flesh that dwelt among us; He who was crucified, dead, and buried for the atonement of our sins; He who rose from the dead, ascended into heaven, and sits enthroned at the right hand of God the Father; He who lives to make intercession for us. And the list goes on. Oh to learn from ravens and lilies! Perhaps it's time to stop turning minutia into mountains and start resting the full weight of our trust on Him who cares, aiming our hearts on that which is True Treasure.
