Ransom Paid!

Jesus said, "...The Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.” (Matthew 20:28 ESV) With regard to sin and death, the Scriptures are clear, we've been ransomed by God through our Lord Jesus Christ. How? By His blood shed on the cross. He who made us has also saved us. As the old hymn goes, "He sought me and bought me with His redeeming blood." Jonathan Edwards writes, "God is both the purchaser and the price; for Christ, who is God, purchased these blessings by offering Himself as the price of our salvation." The Apostle John got a heavenly tutorial in celestial worship and his imagery and revelatory descriptions are both amazing and unsettling. But besides the majestic glories he witnessed, he was privileged to hear a new song, one we too will someday sing. Revelation 5:9-10 are lyrics from a multiplatinum hit: "And they sang a new song, saying, 'Worthy are You to take the scroll and to open its seals, for You were slain, and by Your blood You ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation, and You have made them a kingdom and priests to our God, and they shall reign on the earth.'” (ESV) For those ransomed by Christ, bought with a price, this is our song.
