Jesus taught that "Everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted" (Luke 18:14b). James says "God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble" (James 4:6). Pride is at the root of every sin, whereas humility is the ultimate goal of our sanctification. The believer, with the help of the Holy Spirit, should be on a relentless pursuit to eliminate all pride from his or her life, because pride is an attempt to steal the glory that belongs to God alone.
