Plans Driven by Wisdom vs Worry

Jesus tells this parable in Luke 12:16-20: “The land of a rich man produced plentifully, and he thought to himself, ‘What shall I do, for I have nowhere to store my crops?’ And he said, ‘I will do this: I will tear down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry.”’ But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul is required of you, and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?’" (ESV) The major problem doesn't seem to be the man's plan to build storage barns for his surplus crops--it was entrusting his soul to what was far from trustworthy. Our planning can be driven by wisdom or it can be driven by worry. Saving for tomorrow and prepping for a crisis can be rooted in complete trust in the Lord and such prudence is laudable. But we can also be motivated by our lack of trust in the Lord. Deep down we don't believe He really is in control. That's mistrust! Insecurity can drive us to seek security in things that fail to deliver--sinking sand verses solid ground. That's true in the natural and in the spiritual. It matters where our feet are planted. So where are your feet right now?
