Peter – From Prideful Fisherman to Humble Servant

Peter – From Prideful Fisherman to Humble Servant

Peter was the disciple that Jesus called "the Rock." When Jesus named 12 of His followers who would have the special designation as Apostles, Peter was number one on the list. He was commended for recognizing that Jesus was "the Christ, the Son of the Living God." He went on to be the first head of the early church in Jerusalem. But Peter's unique calling and position was not because he was a natural born leader who was without serious character flaws. Like all of us, Peter had issues. He was prideful and impulsive. In this sermon, we will explore numerous episodes in the Gospels that document Peter's unique "pruning" that matured him from an arrogant, quick-tempered fisherman into a humble and dynamic servant of Christ.
