Blessed Are the Watchful Servants

Blessed Are the Watchful Servants

Luke 12:35-37 are the words of Jesus: "Stay dressed for action and keep your lamps burning, and be like men who are waiting for their master to come home from the wedding feast, so that they may open the door to him at once when he comes and knocks. Blessed are those servants whom the master finds awake when he comes." (ESV) Every generation has their end time prognosticators. Most of them spend their energies on declaring their notions of WHEN rather than obeying Jesus' admonition to be WATCHFUL. Many argue times have never been worse. But is that really so? It pays to be a student of history before putting on the camel hair suits, eating honey-dipped grasshoppers, and making assertions about what God alone knows. Being watchful servants with girded loins means being faithful servants who love their Lord through active obedience. The Two Greats remain the Two Greats: The Great Commandment and Great Commission. Neither were were mere suggestions. Knowing and loving Jesus, loving one another, and making Christ known are what Watchful Servants are about. And how very blessed they truly are!
