The Greatest Offering of All Time

Moses called the Israelite people together for a congregational meeting to discuss how the Tabernacle was to be constructed. Besides being portable, it had to be built to endure forty years of wandering in the wilderness. It also had to be built according to God's specifications because everything about its heavenly design- its furnishings, ceremonies, sacrifices, priestly garments, and all the festivals surrounding it would ultimately point prophetically to the coming Messiah, Jesus Christ. But more practically, how would Israel make this Tent happen? Moses calls for an offering of stuff, everything from gold and silver to goat hair and tent pegs. Likewise he calls for an offering of skills. 'To those who are willing, bring us your stuff and bring us your skills!' So how did the people respond? With overwhelming generosity! They gave so much that Moses had to finally command them to stop giving! This has to be the the greatest offering of all time--right? Well actually the greatest offering of all times would not come for another 1400 years when Jesus would go to the cross for our sins, fulfilling everything the Tabernacle foreshadowed. The impact of God the Father, offering His Son to make us His own, inevitably results in an overflow of gratitude and joy as we generously offer back to God, our time, treasure, talents, gifts, and graces--all for the glory of His name.
