Light of the World

Light of the World

The Scriptures say that Jesus is the Light that has come into the world, the Light of Life.  Jesus told the religious leaders in the Gospel of John, chapter 8, that He was the Light of the world.  In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus declared to us (Matthew 5:14-16) that we are the light of the world, even a city set on a hill.  In 1 John 1:5-7 it says: "This is the message we have heard from Him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with Him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin."  While all these verses may sound contradictory, they actually fit together seamlessly.  We have a constant celestial illustration: As the sun shines down brightly upon the earth, the moon likewise, reflecting the radiance of the sun, shines down upon this dark world.  May the Lord enable us to shine forth in like manner and reflect His glory as we declare His praises, proclaim His Gospel, and walk in the light of His truth and love.
