Leaders: Servants vs Celebrities

Leaders: Servants vs Celebrities

1 Corinthians 3:4-7 says: "For when one says, 'I follow Paul,' and another, 'I follow Apollos,' are you not being merely human? What then is Apollos? What is Paul? Servants through whom you believed, as the Lord assigned to each. I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth." (ESV) In the 23 verses of 1 Corinthians 3, Paul succeeds in tramping down all notions that resemble celebrity status concerning the leadership of the church. These verses exhort us to keep our eyes and hearts on Christ alone. And they steer us aright as we seek to build with precious materials--such as those that will survive the flames of judgment that will surely test all our labors on that coming Day. God sent His Son, Jesus, who died, shed His blood, to purchase His beloved Bride who was in the snares of death and bound for hell. That Bride is us! And woe to any who seek to harm the Bride of our fierce and merciful King, Jesus Christ!
