Josiah: The Boy Who Would Be King

Josiah: The Boy Who Would Be King

Who is crowned king of a nation at the age of eight? What king begins seeking God as a sixteen year old and then enacting major reforms at the age of twenty? His name was Josiah, the last good king of Judah. During Josiah's reign, he totally laid waste to all the places where idolatry was practiced. Then he began to refurbish God's temple which was in great disrepair. During that project, a Book was discovered, the Law of Moses. How does something like that become lost in the first place? When the king heard the words from the Book, he tore his clothes as he realized how far his nation had fallen away from God. He sought the Lord and a prophetess declared that God's wrath was coming upon Judah, though Josiah himself would escape it. Josiah read the Book to all the people and they renewed their covenant with the Lord, at least with their lips, perhaps not with their hearts. God's wrath was likewise aimed at us. But Jesus-God the Son, who came from the lineage of Josiah, completely fulfilled the Law of Moses. And then He went to the cross and absorbed the wrath of God against us. By faith in Christ, His righteousness is imputed to us. Whether you are eight or sixteen, twenty-something or ninety-something, this Good News is for you. Believe it with all your heart!
