Jesus is The Light of the World--Us Too!
Matthew 5:14-16 says: "You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven." (ESV) And who declares such words as these? Jesus! And it's this same Jesus who said of Himself in John 8:12: “I am the Light of the world; the one who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.” (NASB) So the only reason Jesus can declare that we are the light of the world is because He is the true, original, and preeminent Light of the World and He has chosen to cast His shimmering rays of light upon us! Our Lord alone has lit the lanterns of our hearts and it is He alone Who causes us to reflect His radiance!
