So terrible was the rejection He endured that Jesus cried out "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" (Mark 15:34) But one rarely discussed aspect of the pain Christ bore was the intense shame He felt; the writer of Hebrews noted that while on the cross Jesus was "despising the shame." (Hebrews 12:2) What is the meaning of this unusual statement and why is it important for us to know?
