Hezekiah: God Brings Victory

King Hezekiah and all Jerusalem were facing extermination at the hands of the Assyrian Army. They were surrounded. No nation had stopped this relentless horde and their territorial domination stretched from the Persian Gulf to the Mediterranean Sea. What would Hezekiah do? He cried out to God! The Lord heard and dispatched an angel who slaughtered 185,000 Assyrian warriors in a single night! God's people, holed up in Jerusalem, were spared. But a far greater victory has been won for us through Jesus Christ. By His death on the cross and resurrection from the grave, our Savior triumphed in every way that truly matters, winning victories we could never achieve for ourselves. He conquered sin and death and secured for us eternal life! Colossians 2:13-15 declares it: "You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ, for He forgave all our sins. He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross. In this way, He disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by His victory over them on the cross." (NLT) All other triumphal victories pale in comparison!
