He's Coming Back-He Said He Would

During the season of Advent leading up to Christmas, the emphasis is rightfully on the birth of God the Son, Jesus the Messiah. Advent is also an appropriate time to consider Jesus' second Advent. While there is much eschatological debate about Jesus' return, there is little debate that He will be back someday. While we might wish the Scriptures told us more about His second Advent, they convey precisely all the Lord would have us know in these present days. They also bolster our hearts with sure and certain hope for our loved ones in Christ who have preceded us to glory. "Dem bones really are gonna rise again!" The Scriptures are completely sufficient. The passages regarding Jesus' return and the end of days instill in us sufficient courage, sufficient expectations, sufficient warnings, and sufficient instructions of what we are to lay our hearts and hands to "in the meantime." It behooves us then to look expectantly for our Lord's eventual appearing as though it could happen tomorrow while we presently labor as though the delay could be a few thousand years off. Either way, the Beloved of the Lord will not miss it and holding dear that promised Day should keep us smiling about the future--it will be worth the wait!
