He Became Poor That We Might Become Rich

He Became Poor That We Might Become Rich

2 Corinthians 8:9 succinctly shares the Gospel: "For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sake He became poor, so that you by His poverty might become rich." (ESV) Many suppose Jesus was poor because He was born in a stable and His first bassinet was a feeding trough. But remember, Joseph was a carpenter and would've been earning a fair day's wage. Jesus was born in a stable because the inn was full, not because Joseph & Mary couldn't afford the room fee. The One who owned the cattle on a thousand hills chose to be born in a cattle barn. That remains the astounding miracle of Incarnation. Philippians 2:5-8 is an apt summary: "Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though He was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross." (ESV) Embracing this is genuine treasure! May you be blessed by the true riches found in Christ Jesus alone!
