God the Son Died in Our Place

God the Son Died in Our Place

At the Last Supper, Jesus says to a puzzled Thomas, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." (ESV) Of course these words were not just for Thomas and the other disciples, they were also for us. But this begs the question: was Jesus deranged, yanking our chains, or telling the truth when He made this declaration? How we answer makes all the difference. And how does Jesus-the Son of God make a way for us to the Father? By dying on a cross the next day. Through Jesus' sacrifice, God's justice and love are both completely effectuated. 1 John 4:9-10 sums it up perfectly: "By this the love of God was displayed in us, in that God has sent His [One and] only begotten Son [the One who is truly unique, the only One of His kind] into the world so that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation [that is, the atoning sacrifice, and the satisfying offering] for our sins [fulfilling God’s requirement for justice against sin and placating His wrath]." (Amplified) Let this be our profession: God the Son, came down from heaven, and died in our place! All glory to His name!
