Go Ye Therefore
Charles Spurgeon said: "Every Christian is either a missionary or an impostor." So why do Christians become missionaries? Why do Christians go on short term mission trips to poor countries? Why do they start prison or inner city ministries? Why do they share the Gospel with neighbors, coworkers, and teammates? Why so much talk about witnessing? Why can't Christians just keep their faith to themselves and leave people alone? The answer is actually simple--Jesus commanded us to go and tell and love and serve and to do that wherever there were living, breathing, people on the planet. Matthew 28:18-20 lays out this Great Commission: "And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” The Great Commission to some is merely The Nice Suggestion. But Jesus reiterates His marching orders with more red letters in Acts 1:8 just before He ascended to His throne: "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the utter most parts of the earth.” Therefore we go in obedience, with joy, thanksgiving, and love driving us, to tell others about Jesus Christ, because doing so is a nothing less than our God ordained privilege. So be it!
