Demons Believe in God, So What!
When surveys are taken in our nation about how many people believe in God, 80 to 90-some percent say they do. At first glance we might cheer those statistics. But the truth is, 100 percent of the demons in hell, including the devil himself, believe in God. Among Satan and his minions there are no atheists or agnostics. Ephesians 2:8 is bedrock truth: "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God." (ESV) But just what kind of faith are we talking about? What is the substance of this kind of faith? More importantly, do you possess this kind of faith? Martin Luther said: "We are justified by faith alone, but not by a faith that is alone.” The righteousness of Christ cannot be earned, cannot be achieved actively; it must be received passively for it is freely given. And further, this unmerited favor, which we do not deserve, brings to us this gift of faith, a faith so potent, so divinely charged, so Holy Spirit endowed, we will be driven to actions that can only be described as remorseful and repentant on the one hand and Godly and Christlike on the other. Nope--demons don't possess this kind of faith! So what about you?
