Cast Your Burden on the Lord

Cast Your Burden on the Lord

Psalm 55 chronicles David's betrayal experience by a trusted friend. There's agony and crying in these lyrics, raw pain and a desperate plea for help, not to mention justice. We know David was betrayed by his son Absalom and his trusted counselor, Ahithophel, but there were likely others. David wrestles himself to a place before God where he's able to rid himself of his burden, even exhorting us to do the same: "Cast your burden on the Lord, and He will sustain you..." (Psalm 55:22a ESV) The ultimate betrayal happened to our Lord Jesus by one of His disciples, one who had heard every sermon and witnessed countless miracles. The Son of God was betrayed into the hands of sinners and He atoned for our betrayals of God with His own blood. Perhaps you have suffered betrayal. Perhaps you have betrayed someone. Either way, there is hope for you in God because there's help for you in Jesus Christ.  Cast your burden upon Him--He truly does care for you.
