Believe in Jesus and Love One Another

John was probably the youngest of Jesus' disciples. He, along with his brother James, were fisherman like their father, Zebedee. They were a couple dudes you didn't want to mess with. Jesus nicknamed them, Boanerges which means, "Sons of Thunder." Once when Samaritans prevented them from taking a shortcut through their turf, they suggested to Jesus that fire from heaven might solve the problem. Jesus severely rebuked them. By the time John wrote his Gospel, three epistles, and the book of Revelation, he was a radically changed man. Hanging around Jesus, seeing Him crucified, dead, buried, risen, ascending to heaven, and subsequently being filled with the Holy Spirit has a way of changing a person! The former Son of Thunder is now aptly called,"The Apostle of Love." In 1 John 3:23 he makes one of the profoundest declarations in all the Bible: "And this is His commandment, that we believe in the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, just as He has commanded us." (ESV) That's called shucking it down to the cob! Somebody grab the butter!
