CloseAs the Israelites inch closer to invading Canaan, they seek peaceful passage through Amorite lands. They're not only refused passage, they're attacked by two different kings, Sihon and Og. But Israel soundly defeats them and takes possession of their cities and territories. Three of Israel's tribes will make this territory their homeland. More battles of course will follow on the other side of the Jordan. Brutal wars, replete with horrific bloodshed, have continued down through the ages. The earth and seas hold the remains of countless warriors from countless wars. Even followers of Jesus, the Prince of Peace, have needed to don the uniforms of their respective countries with many giving their last full measure. But as believers, we are also engaged in conflicts that are unseen and yet just as real. Ephesians 6:12 explains: "For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places." (NLT) Were we to see the warfare in the unseen realms, it would chill us to the bone! And yet we fight the good fight, daily. And even though we die, yet shall we live! In Romans 8:31, the Apostle Paul declares to all of us in the thick of battle: "What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?" (ESV) Our triumphant and invincible Savior & Lord has us, holds us, and preserves us! He promises victory! Plus the end of His Book says we win! This almost makes the victories over Sihon & Og seem like child's play...
