Who Do You Say That He Is?

Who Do You Say That He Is?

It matters who we say Jesus is. When He walked the earth, some affectionately called Him rabbi or teacher. Others thought Him to be a prophet who did miracles like the prophets of old. Others called Him Beelzebub or the son of Satan. Three of the Gospels tell us how Jesus asked His disciples who people thought He was. Matthew 16:14-17 records: "And they said, “Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven." (ESV) In our day, opinions of who Jesus was (and is) are many. Some believe He was a very good man, a great moral teacher, or a devout religious leader. But Peter had it right, He was the Christ (Messiah) the Righteous One, the Son of the living God. And He came to restore us to God the Father by His death and resurrection. Flesh and blood may not be able to reveal this to you but God through the Holy Spirit certainly can. And perhaps He is doing just that...
