Paul never shrank back, never backed down, never watered down the wine, and tenaciously kept the Gospel central in every sermon and letter. We have much to embrace from his legacy.

Many of us can remember a time when we failed miserably at something. We may also remember someone who stooped down, entered our mess, just to lift us up out of it. The Incarnation, God the Son takes on human flesh, is all that, and then some, and then a whole lot more.

Just as love compelled Jesus to leave the glories of heaven to come for us, His love at work in us and through us will likewise compel us to leave what’s comfortable in order to bestow comfort upon those in need. Or at least love should have that compelling effect…

Many scholars and believers regard the incarnation–God becoming a man–as the greatest miracle of them all. As we contemplate the notion of Emmanuel–God with us in the person of Jesus, it behooves us to consider how the incarnation has implications for us.

While the church is referred to in the New Testament as the family of God, it’s also called the body of Christ, a body with many working parts. At least they should be working parts.

There were a lot of great dads whose stories have been told in the Bible, but, most of these, maybe with the exception of Job and the prodigal son’s father, also had some moral or character flaws that would not be considered “great.” Even so, God used them in powerful ways.

It’s hard to fathom having God the Son, the co-Creator of the universe, stooping down and washing the feet of those who in a matter of hours would betray, deny, and flee His side in cowardice. But He did just that.
