Summary

Hebrews 6:19 says that hope is the anchor of our souls. But for many, hope is merely wishful thinking. ‘I hope I get a good grade on my exam.’ ‘I hope I find a new job.’ ‘I hope the rain holds off.’ But if our lives are anchored to mere wishes, they’re far from secure. However, if our lives are anchored to Christ: His death, burial, and resurrection; His Word, His will, and His ways; upon the eternal life He bought with His blood; then our hope, as stated in the Common Book of Prayer, is sure and certain. 1 Peter 1:13 says: “Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.” (ESV) Time is short. Is your faith and hope in our Most Holy God? Is it attached to the redemptive work of Christ? Can you cast the anchor of your souls upon His undeserved love (grace)? Can you affix it to His promises? And what is the effect of that hope? How will it do in a storm? How will it do when tempted or enticed? Will people see it and ask about it? Is it sure and certain as twilight approaches?
