The book of Proverbs robustly affirms the sovereignty of God, His steadfast love and faithfulness, and that His ways are far better than ours.  It is a book that couches true wisdom and discernment in the fear of the Lord.  It exposes the antithesis of prudent living as things such as immorality, violence, unbridled speech, and laziness.  Though the Proverbial outcomes of honest, wise, and God-fearing living lead directly towards blessings for the present life, the undergirding exhortation to Trust God has inherent eternal implications.  Trust means to put the full weight of our souls upon the Lord.  With respect to everlasting life, that means to put our full trust in Jesus Christ and upon the righteousness He obtained for us on the Cross.  Neither putting our trust in selfish ambition or the pursuit of pleasure nor putting our trust in our own self-righteousness efforts to earn salvation will prove successful for life past the grave.  Fortunately, Jesus came to save the prodigal son and his elder brother.  Putting our soul’s full weight upon Jesus, trusting His blood spilled love to make us His own, and trusting His Spirit empowered presence to transform us, will prove indeed to have been the Wisdom of God.
