Summary

In Luke 12:22-23, Jesus says: “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat, nor about your body, what you will put on. For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing.” (ESV) He goes on to share how God feeds the ravens and clothes the lilies and yet loves us much more. Then in verse 31 of the same chapter, Jesus says: “Instead, seek His kingdom, and these things will be added to you.” (ESV) During the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus says similarly in Matthew 6:33: “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” In other words, the One who rules and orchestrates all that takes place in the Kingdom of Heaven has promised to care and provide for us in the here and now! And therefore, Jesus concludes, worrying over the everyday cares of our lives is not necessary. And if we do not trust God in this life, do we really trust Him as our source for everlasting life? A Day will come when what we presently know as the earth will be forever changed. A great merger of Heaven and earth is coming! But even now our great God and King richly provides and He is totally and absolutely worthy of our trust!
