Ephesians 1:7 says: “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace…” (ESV) Colossians 1:13-14 affirms: “For He has rescued us and has drawn us to Himself from the dominion of darkness, and has transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, in whom we have redemption [because of His sacrifice, resulting in] the forgiveness of our sins [and the cancellation of sins’ penalty].” (AMP) Jesus was sent to earth by God to redeem us from impending destruction. We had already been condemned, facing eternal damnation. But God the Son, our Maker and Creator, came on a mission of redemption. His vision for us wasn’t one of condemnation or destruction, His was one of rescuing, reclaiming, and remaking! The purpose of incarnation clearly was redemption! We dare not let that be lost in the glitz and glitter and pageantry of this season. If you miss this, you miss Christmas! Let the redeemed of the Lord say so!
