When Jesus met privately with the Pharisee, Nicodemus, it wasn’t to share the story of Christmas. John gives no indication that a Bethlehem stable, or angels, or shepherds, or Magi ever entered into their conversation. But what Jesus shared during their nighttime get-together epitomizes what Christmas is all about. John 3:16-17 says: “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through Him.” (ESV) God the Son, come to earth, to save fallen man, to restore Him to God–the incarnation mission is revealed! In 2 Corinthians 9:15, Paul sums up our only fitting response. The VOICE version paraphrases the text superbly: “Praise God for this incredible, unbelievable, indescribable Gift!” As Isaiah foretold, Christ Jesus fulfilled; “For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given…” Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hal-le-lu-jah!
