1 Corinthians 13 is often referred to as the Love Chapter. Paul juxtaposes spiritual gifts, noble deeds, and Biblical knowledge next to God’s love and summarily dismisses them as annoying distractions whenever engaged without the most excellent endowment of all. So what does God’s love, Agape in the Greek, look like?

The proverbial saying from the 1500’s still rings true: “Oh but for the grace of God, go I.” Paul, in his stern letter to the Galatians, reminds the church to extend love to those who have been caught up or entangled in various transgressions in order to restore them.

Jesus, bound for Jerusalem by way of Jericho, encounters a blind man begging along side of the road. Mark’s gospel tells us his name is Bartimaeus. The f15 mile jaunt from Jericho to Jerusalem is well traveled by pilgrims sojourning to Jewish festivals.
