When Jesus was delivering the Sermon on the Mount, He eventually came to the topic of treasure.  In Matthew 6:19-21 He declares: “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (ESV) So how do we lay up treasures in heaven?  What can we do here to invest there?  How do we determine what God values and how do we place our hearts on this True Treasure?  Why was giving up possessions so easy for Lazarus the tax collector but so horribly difficult for the rich young ruler?  How could a widow give her last two cents when that’s all she had to live on?  The answer to those questions seems to lie in the depths of our hearts and more specifically to what our hearts genuinely treasure more than anything else.
