In 1 Timothy 1:15 Paul writes: “The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost.” (ESV) But it’s important to note, Jesus didn’t become a sinner to minister to sinners. Hollywood likes to portray Jesus with sinners as “one of the boys.” But even though Jesus became a man, He never became a sinful man. He never checked His holiness at the door. The Righteous One never became the unrighteous one. Sinners did not welcome Jesus because He became “one of them.” They welcomed Him as a Great Physician who had a cure for their disease of sin; He was THE Remedy. He spoke the truth in love. Without approving of their sin, He met them with mercy and acceptance. Approval and acceptance aren’t the same. Sinners were not drawn to Jesus because He approved of their unholy behavior, instead they wanted set free from it. Sinners drawn to Jesus knew they were damned without a Savior. In Jesus they found that Savior! The same is as true as it ever was…
