During the reign of King Jehoshaphat, Judah was invaded by the Moabites, Ammonites, and Meunites, all allied against God’s people. Facing certain annihilation, Jehoshaphat called a national time of prayer and fasting. God’s answer came through a Levite named Jahaziel who declared in part: “Listen, all Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem and King Jehoshaphat: Thus says the Lord to you, ‘Do not be afraid and do not be dismayed at this great horde, for the battle is not yours but God’s…'” (2 Kings 20:15 ESV) The people listened and took courage. They marched to the place of battle and found their enemies slain upon the ground. None escaped. And it took three days to haul away the spoils. We too face an axis of evil–the world, the flesh, and the devil. Without God’s intervention, victory over these battle-hardened foes is impossible. But God through His Son, Jesus Christ, has achieved our victory. Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross has rendered their power broken. They have been defeated, are being defeated, and will one day be forever defeated. Colossians 2:14-15 proclaims: “He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross. In this way, He disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by His victory over them on the cross.” (NLT) Praise God for our ultimate victory won for us by Christ!
