Matthew 9:37-38 says: “Then He said to His disciples, ‘The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.’” (ESV) It’s worth noting that Jesus doesn’t tell His disciples to pray for the harvest. He indicates the harvest exists now. Further, He says the harvest is plentiful. But what Jesus does tell them is there aren’t enough workers for the harvest at hand. The harvest was ripe but the workers were few. Either few in number or too few who were actually willing to wade out into the fields. So who was it that God used to wade into your life? Who did He use in your apprehending? Who were those vessels and voices that came into your life at just the right time as He was making you His own? No matter who they were, it’s fair to call them laborers. God wants all of us to be one of those. You may be a tiller of soil. You may be a planter. You may be a waterer. You may be a picker or a shucker. One person mans a plow, another a watering can, another a sickle or scythe and the harvest gets worked. Have you told God you’re available?
